Victor Wanyama praised Tottenham Hotspur's Europa League win as a well-earned reward after a challenging Premier League season.

Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama believes Tottenham Hotspur deserves the Europa League trophy, especially after a torrid season.

The Spurs ended their 18-year wait for silverware by edging Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao to lift the Europa League, Europe’s second most prestigious trophy.

They have struggled to make a mark in the Premier League, and a Europa League trophy comes as enough consolation for the club.

In the Premier League, Tottenham finished a disappointing 17th place with 38 points, escaping relegation by a whisker.

Out of their 38 matches played, the Spurs have managed to win 11, draw 5 and lose 22. The bottom three teams, Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton, have been relegated.

The former Celtic FC midfielder noted that the current squad at Spurs has tons of young players who are hungry for more success.

Victor Wanyama added that giving their all in the squad and finally winning a trophy is a great thing for them, despite the Premier League setback.

“They have had a really difficult season, and I believe they totally deserved to finish with a trophy. They have had a very good team of young, ambitious players, and it was only unfortunate that things didn’t go well for them,” Victor Wanyama told Telecomasia.net.

“Finishing the season with a trophy is a big consolation for them, and I believe it will spur them for the new season, especially now that they will play in the Champions League.”

Victor Wanyama believes the Spurs can continue soaring high and has, in turn, tipped them to bounce back in the Premier League next season.

Having previously played for the Spurs from 2016 to 2020, Victor Wanyama was a very instrumental player as he helped them reach the Champions League final in the 2018/19 season.

From Tottenham, Victor Wanyama played for CF Montreal from 2020 to 2024 before signing with Dunfermline Athletic at the start of the 2025 season.
