Tusker FC aims for a crucial win against relegation-threatened Nzoia Sugar to stay in the title race in the FKF Premier League.

Tusker FC is gearing up for a pivotal showdown against Nzoia Sugar FC aiming for a crucial win in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League clash at Dandora Stadium on Monday afternoon.

With the season winding down and just seven matches left the stakes are high for the Brewers who are currently third in the standings.

The match is particularly significant as Tusker seeks to maintain pressure on the league leaders Gor Mahia and stay in contention for the championship.

Despite their recent mixed form securing only three points from the last four matches Tusker redeemed themselves with a narrow 1-0 victory against Ulinzi Stars on April 21.

Nzoia Sugar FC, on the other hand, finds itself in a desperate battle against relegation and their precarious position makes them unpredictable and possibly more dangerous as they fight for their survival in the top flight.

"We have trained hard through this weather that has been rocking the whole nation. Our focus has been mainly on Nzoia, which we know is a good team. We have prepared well for the game tomorrow and hopefully we can get positive results. We expect a tough game from our opponents," said a Tusker defender Eugene Asike in a pre-match interview.

The first encounter between these two teams this season ended in a 2-0 victory for Tusker in Bungoma. However, Nzoia's desperate situation could add an extra layer of intensity to the rematch.

"It's a team that they believe can still stay in the league so we are not expecting an easy game from them, we are expecting a really tough game so we have to go out there as well, we show great desire and commitment during the game," Asike added.

The history between the two teams shows Tusker's dominance with six wins out of 11 league matches since 2017, with Nzoia managing just two victories, and the remaining three games ending in draws.

"Yes, we lost three games but as a team it was a loss but we took it as a lesson. So I believe the last game we won against Ulinzi brought a good factor back into the team. I believe we can carry the momentum we had in our last game to the game," Asike noted.

With Gor Mahia 14 points ahead, every match is critical for Tusker if they hope to challenge for the title and the team is focused on taking each game as it comes without getting ahead of themselves.

"We are approaching every game, game by game, game by game. We believe if we focus on the next game, not the seventh, I believe we'll be in a better place. So we are focusing on each and every game that comes up. So our next focus game against Nzoia. And as I know, because I've been in this team for quite some time, we always want to finish the season on a high. So that's the main target for each and every player here to finish strongly," he concluded.
