Harambee Stars boss Benni McCarthy has since expressed confidence in the squad, noting that the players will be ready ahead of the August tournament.

The eighth edition of the event will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, and this will mark the first time the event is hosted by three countries.

With Kenya being among the hosts, Benni McCarthy has promised to deliver a memorable event, noting that playing against Chad gave them a feel of how playing on the international scene was an eye-opening experience.

“They have seen the levels that if we reach the kind of football that we can play, the results that we can have are a lot of good and positive things to look forward to with CHAN coming up,” Benni McCarthy said.

“I am excited that the team will be ready, and we will have a nice time with them and then prepare them so that when CHAN comes, this team will be ready and raring to go. Our main focus is to bless the country with more victories, more wins, to make them happy.”

Benni McCarthy pointed out that he wanted the friendly against Chad to also give them a chance to build their chemistry.

The former Manchester United attacking coach added that the players showed up, and he was impressed with how the players showed up for the second game.

He revealed that including the international players was a huge win since the locally based players were able to learn a lot from them and know what is expected ahead of CHAN.

“So, I just wanted to give them also a bit of game time, and just to get them to have some minutes, be part of the group, of the team, and they can also help with the local players, and it worked fantastically,” Benni McCarthy said.

“The players were very instrumental, they were very key, to what we are trying to do, and I think now for the boys that are gonna play in the CHAN, I just hope that from here, they have just seen the levels that I expect from them.”

Kenya have been pooled in Group A alongside Morocco, Angola, DR Congo and Zambia. Group B will have Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and the Central African Republic.

Group C comprises, Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Algeria, and South Africa while Group D features, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan and Nigeria.
