Barcelona were able to secure three points against Real Valladolid to cement their place at the top of LaLiga
Despite fielding a largely second-string side, Barcelona did just enough to claim all three points as they came back from a goal down to defeat Real Valladolid 2-1.
Fermin Lopez got the winner for Barcelona midway through the second half after Raphinha had pulled Barcelona level following Ivan Sanchez' opening goal for Real Valladolid early in the first half.
How it happened
With one eye on the upcoming UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Inter Milan, Hansi Flick rotated heavily, handing Marc-André ter Stegen his first start of 2025.
But things started disastrously for Barcelona as Ivan Sanchez's deflected shot gave Valladolid a shock early lead.
Despite bringing on Lamine Yamal before halftime due to an injury to Dani Rodriguez, Barcelona couldn not find a response before the break.
In the second half, Flick’s changes paid off as half-time substitute Raphinha equalised with a thunderous finish in the 54th minute, before Fermín López completed the turnaround soon after.
Barcelona pushed for a third but had to settle for a narrow win, putting them seven points ahead of Real Madrid, albeit having played one more game.
With four league games remaining, Barcelona now shift their focus to the Champions League decider on May 6 in Milan, where the tie is delicately poised at 3-3. Flick is expected to recall his stars, including Yamal, Raphinha, Pau Cubarsí, Inigo Martinez, Ferran Torres, and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny.
