Napoli are reportedly in talks for a forward who could replace Victor Osimhen in Naples.

Jonathan David has officially confirmed his departure from Lille at the end of the current season.

The Canadian international announced his decision via a video message, stating that his time with the club would conclude after five years.

David to leave Lille, Napoli move on the cards

The announcement had been widely anticipated, despite the player previously leaving the door open for a potential contract renewal in public statements.

“Every story has a beginning and an end,” David’s video announcement on Instagram read. “I wanted to tell you myself that, after many years at the club, it is time for me to say goodbye.”

During his time with Les Dogues, David played a key role in their Ligue 1 title-winning campaign in 2020-21, scoring 13 times in 37 appearances, and he has netted an impressive 109 goals in 231 appearances across all competitions (as of May 14, 2025).

This season alone, he has netted 25 goals in 48 games and aims to add to that tally ahead of his final match for Lille against Reims on Saturday.

What’s next for David?

Recent reports indicate that Napoli have emerged as strong contenders for his signature, with discussions believed to be at an advanced stage.

Those rumours have been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano in a post on X after David’s announcement.

The Canadian could replace Victor Osimhen, whose departure from the Partenopei is anticipated this summer, with several clubs interested in the on-loan Galatasaray forward.
