Harambee Stars' probable starting line up against Chad in Morocco as Benni McCarthy eyes first win in charge of the team.

Kenya’s national football team, Harambee Stars, are set to face Chad in the first of two back-to-back international friendlies at Stade de Marrakech in Morocco on Saturday, June 7 at 18:00 EAT.

This clash marks coach Benni McCarthy’s third match in charge of the team, as he continues building towards the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

After a mixed start in March — a 3-3 thriller away to Gambia followed by a 2-1 home defeat to Gabon — McCarthy is expected to field a fresh blend of youth and experience in this first outing against Chad.

Here’s the predicted starting XI for Kenya:

Harambee Stars’ Probable Starting XI as Benni McCarthy Eyes First Win in Morocco Friendly vs Chad

Goalkeeper - Farouk Shikalo

Farouk Shikalo will be expected to start in goal ahead of Brian Bwire and Sebastinos Wekesa for the first friendly match, with the keeper having earned the national team’s trust at the Mapinduzi Cup under then interim coach Francis Kimanzi.

Shikalo has been on form for both KCB and Bandari, a club he rejoined earlier this year, and even famously made an impressive penalty save against AFC Leopards to deny Brian Wanyama the chance to net the winning goal as both sides shared the spoils.

Right back -Daniel Sakari

At right back, the experienced Daniel Sakari will be expected to get the nod, having been a long-standing member of the national team set up since 2019.

Sakari will be expected to provide his energetic runs bombing up and down the flanks and good one v one defending to give the Stars an edge.

Center Back- Alponce Omija

Alphonce Omija will be expected to start in the right center back berth. Given his pace and ball playing capabilities, as well as his composure in tight situations, he is likely to earn Benni McCarthy’s trust.

Center Back  -Brian Mandela

Brian Mandela will likely start at left center back and will be the captain for the day. The Stellenbosch FC defender was picked to offer his experience and leadership onto the younger squad, and will be keen to get minutes under his belt after recently not playing alot for his club.

Left Back -Aboud Omar

Aboud Omar will be expected to start at left back for this game. Having not played since being dismissed against Zanzibar at the Mapinduzi Cup earlier this year, he will be keen not to repeat his mistakes from that clash.

Central Midfielder -Brian Musa

Brian Musa has been a key figure in the Kenya Police midfield this season and is likely the reason they are en-route to clinch the league title.

His ability to drop deep to receive the ball to create overloads in Police’s build up has been a revelation, as well as his line-breaking passes and general ability to dictate the tempo of games. He will be expected to start this clash.

Central Midfielder - Alpha Onyango

Alpha Onyango will also earn his maiden cap for this game. The Gor Mahia midfielder has been on song for his club and is also equally good at setting the tempo of games, as well as provide legs in the midfield.

Attacking Midfielder - Austin Odhiambo

The creative force who will link the attack to the midfield, Austin Odhiambo will likely get the nod to start in the attacking midfield position ahead of Ben Stanley Omondi.

Left Winger -Boniface Muchiri

The experienced Ulinzi Stars winger will be starting on the left flank in the absence of Mohammed Bajaber, who is nursing an injury that rules him out from participating in both games. Muchiri’s dribbling and excellent delivery of set piece balls should give him a compelling case to get the nod.

Right Winger -William Lenkupae

William Lenkupae impressed on his debut on the right wing during the March international window against Gambia and Gabon, and even found the back of the net against the former.

Will likely be given the chance again to start there.

Center Forward - Moses Shumah

While Beja Nyamawi and Emmanuel Osoro have been on form, Moses Shumah of Kakamega Homeboyz - who is also on fire at the moment - will be given the nod to start.

Shumah already has 3 FIFA recognised international caps to his name, scoring one goal. We expect him to keep his momentum going in a Stars jersey especially given his ability to hold up the ball

With a squad carefully blended with domestic stars and seasoned campaigners, McCarthy will be aiming to secure his first win as Harambee Stars boss before the two teams meet again on Tuesday, June 10, at the same venue and time.
