There will be all to play for in the final matches in the group stages for Morocco and DR Congo at the AFCON 2023.

Heavily fancied Morocco will have to wait until the final game of the group stage to confirm qualification after the Democratic Republic of Congo held them to a draw in the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023.

DR Congo came from behind to hold the Atlas Lions to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon, leaving qualification from Group F up for grabs going into the final round of matches.

Morocco vs DR Congo: What happened

The Atlas Lions, the AFCON 2023 favourites, came into the clash as the bookers’ favourite to take all three points and book a spot in the knockout stage.

Morocco started like they meant business when Achraf Hakimi volleyed them in front from a corner after just six minutes of play at the Stade Laurent Pokou.

Despite Congo occasionally coming close to an equaliser, including Cedric Bakambu missing a golden opportunity to draw Congo level from the spot, the Lions held on to their slim lead at the break.

After the break, the Leopards continued to push for an equaliser. They were finally rewarded for their persistence when Silas Katompa Mvumpa fired in a deserved leveller with 14 minutes to play.

The unexpected result blows Group F wide open, with any of the four teams still capable of progressing. Morocco remain favorites to top the group if they can beat Zambia in their final group game.

For DR Congo, the unlikely point keeps their own hopes alive as they sit second with two points.
