Kenya Police are looking forward to more cash incentives following their surprise run to the FKF Premier League title win.

Kenya Police are waiting for their coronation moment on Sunday when they will be awarded the FKF Premier League trophy.

Police won their maiden league title last weekend when they beat Shabana FC 1-0 in Machakos and head into the final match of the season in celebratory mode with Gor Mahia their next opponent.

The match is set to be staged at Ulinzi Complex and while they are already champions, they will want to go out with a win against K’Ogalo and add further pain on the outgoing champions.

With the title in the bag, focus now shifts to the cash incentive with a lot of speculation over how much the league winners will be awarded.

According to Police CEO Chris Oguso, there has been no information from Football Kenya Federation (FKF) over how much the champions will be awarded in prize money.

“We have not had that conversation from the federation so we do not know what to expect. We also won the title with Kenya Police Bullets (the women’s team) two weeks ago and up to now, we do not know what the reward is,” Oguso told Pulse Sports.

However, based on previous figures, Police will not pocket less than Ksh5 million for their title triumph as this is the amount Gor Mahia were rewarded by the Nick Mwendwa-led FKF after claiming the 2023-24 title.

That came after the federation had been slammed for not awarding Gor Mahia anything when they won the league the previous season, citing empty coffers.

The Hussein Mohammed-led FKF has also complained of debts of over Ksh600 million but they would not want to start on the wrong footing by awarding much less to the Premier League champions.

Meanwhile, Police can also look forward to more money from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as winning the league means they will participate in the CAF Champions League next season.

CAF introduced a new prize structure for inter-club competitions last year with all clubs now getting something.

Who Else Will Reward Police?

For the first time in the CAF competitions, there was prize money from the preliminary round where all teams starting at this stage were awarded $50,000 (Ksh6.5 million) each and this will happen again next season.

If Police navigate their way past the tricky preliminary round, group stage qualification will attract a minimum of $700,000 (Ksh90 million), $900,000 (Ksh116 million) for quarter-finalists, $1.2 million (Ksh155 million) going to semi-finalists as runners up pocket $2 million (Ksh258 million) and champions get $4 million (Ksh516 million).

Police also have a deal with betting firm Betika but according to Oguso, they do not expect any reward from their kit sponsors.

“We are a young team and no one thought we would win the league, so things like those are for Gor Mahia and the likes, ours was a surprise. Betika came in as our personal friends and the things we discuss are not based on deliverables or targets,” said Oguso, explaining why they do not expect a title-winning bonus from the gaming firm.

Police, however, plan to reward their players for the impressive season that saw them come from the relegation zone in November 2024 to title win in June 2025.
