Dethroned FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia have begun plans to reinforce their squad

Dethroned FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia have turned their attention to urgently reinforcing their squad as they look to bounce back and reclaim their title in the upcoming season.

K’Ogalo were edged out in the title race, as Kenya Police clinched their maiden league crown with a 1-0 win over Shabana.

This came despite Gor Mahia’s spirited 3-2 victory over Ulinzi Stars, which proved not enough to retain their status as champions.

Restructure and Redemption Ahead

Following the disappointment, club patron Eliud Owalo has laid out areas that urgently need reinforcement, calling on the club’s management to work closely with the technical bench.

“I think what we now need to do is to work with the management to see how to strengthen the team in the areas where we were weak,” Owalo stated.

“If you look at the team, I would say that we were weak on the flanks of the defense and also our wings have not been functioning. We have a good enough midfield, a good central defense, but the flanks of the defense are not working, the wings are not working, so those are the areas we really need to strengthen.”

Focus Shifts to FKF Cup and CAF Champions League Ambitions

Even as Gor Mahia begin laying foundations for a title comeback, their immediate focus is on the upcoming FKF Cup final against Nairobi United.

The final, potentially to be staged at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on a date yet to be confirmed, offers K’Ogalo a vital shot at silverware to close the season on a high.

More importantly, victory would secure a slot in the CAF Champions League, a competition Gor Mahia are eager to return to.

“The FKF Cup is ours to lose,” said Owalo, signaling the club’s determination not to let the opportunity slip.

5 Most Beautiful CHAN 2024 Stadiums

CHAN 2024 will showcase East Africa’s top stadiums, with a stunning lineup of upgraded, beautiful, and high-capacity venues across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

“We need to get ready for the Confederation Cup (CAF Champions League).”

However, standing in their way is a spirited Nairobi United side that has already proven its mettle by knocking out league heavyweights including Tusker, KCB, and Kakamega Homeboyz.

With a blueprint now laid for reinforcement, Gor Mahia will be aiming for a strong end to the current campaign when they also take on Kenya Police in a pride on the line match with the league already gone.

The flanks and wings will be a priority in the transfer market, while the FKF Cup presents a crucial momentum-builder.
