Arsenal were dealt another huge blow in the title race on Wednesday night, as they were beaten 4-1 by Manchester City at the Etihad.

The Gunners were unable to hold down the Premier League Champions at the Etihad as they conceded four goals on the night.

Mikel Arteta has now claimed that all his efforts to bring in a good show and stop City's team from playing were undone by the Spanish tactician Pep Guardiola.

Arteta defends Holding’s decision

After Arsenal's 4-1 loss to Manchester City on Wednesday night, the Arsenal manager justified his choice to keep Rob Holding in the lineup.

A month ago, Holding was called upon to replace William Saliba after the Frenchman suffered a back injury, which could keep him out for the remainder of the campaign. Since then, Arsenal have struggled, letting in 13 goals in six games while failing to retain a clean sheet.

Erling Haaland, who assisted Kevin De Bruyne's brace and scored his 33rd Premier League goal of the season, intimidated the Englishman all through the game.

The Arsenal boss told reporters: "We wanted to tweak a few things but they were able to execute and scored an early goal.

"You have to understand where we’re coming from, we have to be loyal to what has brought us all this way. We’ve done it in the past in different ways and that doesn’t guarantee you anything. It’s time to look in the mirror at what we could have done better, I’m the first one - and go into the next game."

City on the verge of a treble

Manchester City are on the verge of winning a treble this season. City will become just the second team in history to win the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same season if they go on to win all.

Pep Guardiola's side are already in the final of the FA Cup and are set to face Manchester United in the final. They are also in the semi-final of the Champions League but they have Real Madrid who have won the trophy 14 times to contend with.

If they do win against Real Madrid, they will face either AC Milan or Inter Milan in the final in Istanbul. They also have the Premier League in their grasp as they are two points behind Arsenal with two games in hand.
