Two seasons ago, Nyamawi was netting for fun at National Super League side SS Assad FC. Now, he is part of the Harambee Stars set up ahead of the 2024 CHAN.

Bandari’s goalscoring midfield sensation Beja Nyamawi is elated to have received his first call up to the Harambee Stars squad for their two back-to-back friendlies against Chad in Morocco.

Nyamawi has been on song for Bandari this season. It is the first time he has hit double digits in the league two years since his arrival from SS Assad, a club he also used to score goals for before joining the Dockers in 2023.

Now at the Harambee Stars camp, he will be battling for the striking position alongside FC Talanta’s Emmanuel Osoro and Kakamega Homeboyz’s Moses Shummah.

However,  he has an advantage given he can play as a support striker who makes late runs into the box, a trait that has earned him comparisons to former Chelsea great Frank Lampard.

Speaking to FKF TV from their training base in Morocco, Nyamawi expressed how he reacted to being given the call up by Benni McCarthy this window, which gives him a good chance to prove his worth ahead of the upcoming African Nations Championships (CHAN) 2024, which Kenya will co-host alongside Tanzania and Uganda.

“I am happy about it because it was a dream come true,” Nyamawi said. "I worked for it for a long time because I knew I would represent my country at the highest level one day.”

Reflecting on the mood in the camp, Nyamawi explained that the players are raring to go as they all want to leave Benni McCarthy headaches when he selects the final squad that will be representing the nation at the tournament which will take place this August.

“We are all happy to be here representing our country. We are united and spirited and want to get to the next level.

“I want to make a promise to the fans whenever they are that they should expect good results from us for these two games.”

Nyamawi’s  remarkable journey from a humble background to earning a national team call up is an inspiring tale of perseverance and dedication that has captured the hearts of the people of Kwale and football enthusiasts.

For years. Beja honed his skills on the dusty fields of Diani Kwale County, often overlooked by scouts and talent spotters. However, his exceptional talent and natural goal scoring abilities could not remain hidden forever.

Kwale is renowned for its passionate football supporters, and Beja’s presence with Harambee Stars expected to attract even more fervent fans to the growing Bandari fan club.
