A painful defeat for Simone Inzaghi and his team in the Champions League final against Manchester City and we analyse three mistakes made by Inter Milan’s Manager.

Manchester City demonstrated their dominance in the UEFA Champions League final as they defeated Inter Milan's challenge and won the trophy for the first time in their history.

After winning the FA Cup and the Premier League this season, Guardiola's team needed one more prize to complete a triple.

For the majority of the game, City withstood Inter Milan's onslaught and made sure they took advantage of their opportunities.

The goal by Rodri was sufficient for Manchester City to win the match and the 2022–2023 Champions League for the first time and also achieve a treble.

Inter Milan will be feeling hurt for losing the final to City and we take a look at three mistakes Simone Inzaghi made to lose the Champions League final.

3 Simone Inzaghi mistakes made in UCL final

1. Lukaku left on the bench

Simone Inzaghi left Romelu Lukaku on the bench for the final of the Champions League against Manchester City.

Lukaku has been a phenomenal influence since his return from injury, helping them secure the final for the Champions League.

The Belgian was also involved in Inter’s Coppa Italia win this season as they overcame Fiorentina in the final.

Leaving Lukaku in a crucial game like this was a bad decision for Inzaghi as they failed to create any chances in the first 60 minutes of the game.

He was introduced later on in the second half and Inter had three chances to get an equaliser with him on the pitch.

2. No clear attacking pattern

The first 60 minutes of the game went with only one shot on target for Inzaghi’s side as they failed to create many chances.

Inzaghi’s attacking pattern for the final did not go as planned and it was as if the team was without any clear pattern of attack.

A certain Lukaku would have helped Inzaghi a lot in the first half and could have got a goal for his team.

His introduction in the 60th minute made a lot of changes to Inzaghi’s team as they created five clear chances in the second half with the Belgian on the pitch.

All Inter did in the first half was just marking Man City players and putting pressure on them but when they were with the ball they failed to create an attack.

Leaving Lautaro Martinez on the pitch for too long

Lautaro Martinez was nowhere to be found in this game. He could not impose himself and make any effort to disrupt the Man City defence.

He got two chances in the game, one in the first half and another in the second half but could not utilise them.

The Argentine made a lot of wrong decisions with his passes and movement off the ball when his team was transitioning from defence to attack.

One mistake Inzaghi made was leaving Martinez on the field till the full-time whistle and he should have substituted him in the second half.

These mistakes made by Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi led to the Man City loss at Istanbul.
