Kenyan duo Senaji and Okumu lead their team to historic quadruple victory in 2023 Airtel Top 8 Cup in Malawi.

The Kenyan duo of Clyde Senaji and Collins Okumu played pivotal roles in Nyasa Big Bullets' historic quadruple victory this year, culminating in a thrilling 2-1 win over Mafco FC at Kamuzu Stadium to clinch the 2023 Airtel Top 8 Cup.

Senaji, a central defender who played the entire 90 minutes, has become an integral and beloved member of the squad.

His partner, Okumu, though sidelined due to injury, was a crucial figure in their journey to the finals.

This win etches their team's name as the second ever to clinch the knockout competition twice, following Silver Strikers' achievements in 2017 and 2019.

Senaji, a central figure in the team's defense, completed the full 90 minutes, showcasing his skill and determination.

The victory in the Top 8 Cup not only exemplifies their dominance in the Malawian football scene but also etches their name as the second team ever to win the knockout competition twice, following Silver Strikers' achievements in 2017 and 2019.

Earlier triumphs in the Super League and the FDH Bank Cup set the stage for the Bullets, who also secured the Castel Challenge Cup against Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium.

Lanjesi Nkhoma, the match's standout player and top scorer of the cup, emerged as the hero with a decisive brace. Mafco’s only response was an own-goal from Nickson Nyasulu, highlighting the relentless pressure exerted by the Bullets.

Bullets coach Kallisto Pasuwa reflected on the victory with pride, acknowledging the collective effort that led to this historic moment.

"It has been the togetherness in the team. We are talking of the supporters, the players, the technical panel, and also the management and the secretariat,” he said.

Pasuwa also hinted at areas for improvement, especially in international competitions like the CAF Champions League.

In contrast, Mafco coach Prichard Mwansa expressed his disappointment, emphasizing the pain of losing twice to the Bullets in cup finals.

Despite the setback, he praised his team's resilience and achievements.

"We have managed to reach two finals. It’s not a joke. We were just unfortunate not to win a cup,” Mwansa stated, highlighting his team's commendable journey despite the final outcome.

The Kenyan duo's impact in the Bullets' historic season cannot be overstated.

Senaji's defensive prowess and Okumu's midfield command were instrumental in their team's unmatched success.

This season's achievements set a high bar for the Bullets, as they look forward to maintaining their domestic dominance and making further inroads in the CAF Champions League.

With the Kenyan duo among their ranks, the future looks promising for this formidable team.
