Nairobi United Defender Rejects Home Country Move After Historic Cup Triumph Over Gor Mahia

Nairobi United captain Bichiok has rejected a move to Jamus SC, choosing to stay with the newly promoted club ahead of their historic CAF Champions League campaign.

South Sudan international and Nairobi United captain Daniel Bichiok has dramatically turned down a move to Jamus SC, opting instead to remain with the newly promoted FKF Premier League side as they prepare for their debut in the CAF Champions League.

The defender, who had been on the verge of signing a one-year contract with South Sudan’s Jamus SC, reversed his decision after late-stage talks with Nairobi United’s top brass.

His loyalty was ultimately swayed by the club’s fairytale rise and their recent cup triumph over Gor Mahia that secured them a continental berth.

Bichiok, a towering presence at the heart of defense, was a linchpin in Nairobi United’s successful 2024/25 National Super League campaign.

His leadership and consistency helped the club climb to the Premier League, capping off the season with a standout performance in the FKF Cup final, where Nairobi United stunned Gor Mahia 2-1 in what many thought would be his farewell match.

His form attracted interest from several clubs, with Jamus SC making a strong case for his signature.

Loyalty Over Ambition

Speaking to Pepeta, Bichiok expressed gratitude to Jamus SC but cited emotional ties and unfinished business at Nairobi United as the key reasons for his U-turn.

“It wasn’t an easy decision to make,” Bichiok admitted.

“But qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup with Nairobi United, a team I have grown with and fought for, made me realize where my heart truly is. We have made history together, and I want to keep writing that story.”

Jamus had planned to unveil him alongside Ugandan midfielder Jude Ssemugabi and recently signed Kenyan international Hannif Wesonga. However, those plans have now been shelved.

Eyes on Continental Success

With Nairobi United now preparing for both top-flight league action and their maiden continental campaign, Bichiok’s decision to stay provides crucial stability and experience at the back.

The club is expected to reinforce the squad ahead of a grueling season, but Bichiok is set to be the foundation of their defense.

“I wish Jamus SC all the best in the CAF Champions League and the league,” he added.

“For me, I will take a short holiday and then report back for pre-season as we prepare for the league and continental assignments.”
