Gor Mahia have responded to their poor finish to the 2024-25 season by dismissing the entire technical bench, including members of the team’s security.

Gor Mahia have responded to their poor end to the season by sacking the entire technical bench in a bid to return to their glory days.

K’Ogalo finished second in the FKF Premier League before losing the FKF Cup final to Nairobi United on Sunday and three days later, the coaching staff, lead by Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, has been sent packing.

Also sacked are members of the team’s security who have not covered themselves in glory following a number of ugly incidents witnessed from a section of club supporters in the just-concluded campaign.

“Gor Mahia Football Club wishes to inform its supporters, stakeholders and general public that it has mutually agreed with the entire technical bench, including members of the team security, to part ways, effective 2nd July 2025,” the club statement read.

“This decision follows a comprehensive internal review and is part of the club’s broader restructuring process aimed at strengthening its technical and operational capacity in preparation for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

“The separation has been reached amicably and in good faith with the club recognising and appreciating the contributions made by the outgoing staff. We extend our gratitude to the individuals involved for their commitment, professionalism and service to the club during their tenure,” the statement further read.

The separation was expected after Gor Mahia missed a number of opportunities to win the Premier League title when their rivals Kenya Police, the eventual champions, and Tusker FC gave them chances to close in but never utilised.

Local Coaches Blamed for ‘Sabotaging’ Foreign Tacticians

Gor Mahia coach Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno is among those sacked.

Any hopes of ending the season with silverware went up in smoke as K’Ogalo lost 2-1 to Nairobi United in the FKF Cup final, missing a chance to play continental football next season.

Tensions have been bubbling at Gor Mahia throughout the season with technical bench members of coach Zico, Michael Nam and team manager Victor Nyaoro cited as a disruptive influence to former coaches Leonardo Neiva and then Sinisa Mihic, who were both sacked last season.

The local technicians were blamed for allegedly sabotaging the efforts of Neiva and his successor Mihic while there were unconfirmed claims of them creating divisions within the playing unit.

Zico faced the wrath of fans on Sunday, following Gor Mahia’s cup loss, as he had to be whisked away to safety when a section of supporters were baying for his blood.
