Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu could soon be working under a new coach if the English Championship side manage entice his current tactician Will Still from Reims

Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu could soon be working under a new coach following reports that Sunderland are keen to land Reims tactician Will Still.

Still is reportedly on Sunderland's shortlist to replace former head coach Tony Mowbray, who was sacked by the Championship club on Tuesday.

The Black Cats dropped to ninth in the Championship following their 1-1 draw with Millwall last weekend, making it just two wins from their last nine league matches and three games without victory.

Calling an end to Mowbray's 15-month reign at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland sacked the 60-year-old manager amid reports he had fallen out with the club's sporting director Kristjaan Speakman, reports the UK’s Mail Online.

Still, who is still just 31, is on the radar of Sunderland, having impressed at the French side since he took on the role in 2022.

Reims currently sit fifth in Ligue 1 and are firmly in the race for Champions League qualification, having improved upon their 11th place finish last season.

During his breakout year as a manager, Still guided Reims through a 17-match unbeaten run. He was born in Belgium to English parents and began his managerial career at the age of just 24 in 2017.

According to the Guardian, Still is attracting interest from Sunderland because the club are keen to recruit a young manager. It is believed Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna and Nice assistant Julien Sable are also in the running for the Black Cats job.

Still signed Okumu to beef up his defence this season after two impressive years with Belgian side KAA Gent and the Kenyan central defender has been one of his key players.

If he agrees to move, it will be interesting to see if he would take some of his players with him which might put Okumu in the spotlight.
