Homeboyz needed two quick goals from Moses Shummah and Kevin Amwayi to hunt down AFC Leopards.

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo believes teamwork is the reason they made the final of the FKF Cup for the first time in their history after beating AFC Leopards 1-0 on Saturday.

Homeboyz took advantage of two goals in the first half through Kevin Amwayi and Moses Shummah to end Leopards’ dream of reaching the final of the cup.

They scored a consolation goal through Cliff Nyakeya in the dying minutes of the match, but it was not enough to stop Homeboyz from making history by making its maiden cup final appearance against Tusker in a few weeks’ time.

"The game was tough, especially in the dying minutes of the match,” he said, “I am happy we found some stability having scored both goals and hung on in the end,” he added.

“We needed to be superior in all departments by any means necessary. Both with the ball, without the ball, and in transitional situations.”

“We have worked as a team since I arrived at the club. We have had young players who have had the chance to express themselves. It has been key to our success.”

Quizzed about being the manager that could lead Homeboyz to its first-ever trophy, Odhiambo said: “It is very important (Getting to the finals for the first time in their history) and we thank God a lot for that.”

In the final planned for Saturday, July 1, the Kakamega-based side will face Tusker, who earlier defeated Ulinzi Stars 1-0 courtesy of substitute Erick Otieno’s goal.
