Former Manchester United coach Ralf Rangnick has chosen to stay with Austria after declining an offer to manage Bayern Munich amidst speculation.

Ralf Rangnick has chosen to continue his journey with the Austria national team declining the opportunity to take over as Bayern Munich's manager after Thomas Tuchel's departure.

The decision comes amid widespread speculation linking him to one of the most coveted roles in European football.

"In my heart, I am fully committed to the Austrian team," Rangnick stated on Thursday as per Evening Standard.

"I enjoy this role immensely and am eager to keep pushing towards our collective objectives. It's important to clarify that this isn't a rejection of Bayern Munich; it is a commitment to my current team and our aspirations, especially with the European Championship on the horizon."

Bayern Munich's quest for a new manager began following the announcement that Thomas Tuchel would be leaving the club this summer.

Rangnick, the former interim manager of Manchester United, was considered a prime candidate for the position.

His decision to stay with Austria leaves Bayern in a challenging position as they continue their search for a suitable replacement.

The situation was further highlighted by Bayern president Herbert Hainer, who expressed optimism earlier this week following the team's Champions League semi-final draw against Real Madrid.

"We were in very good talks with Rangnick," Hainer disclosed after the match as per Manchester Evening News.

"However, we respect his decision and wish him the best with Austria."

This managerial saga unfolds as Bayern still contends in the Champions League holding a 2-2 draw against Real Madrid from the first leg of the semi-finals.

The list of those who have declined the position includes Julian Nagelsmann, former Bayern coach and current national team coach, who opted to extend his contract with the German Football Association until 2026.

Xabi Alonso another potential candidate and former Bayern player now managing Leverkusen has also decided to stay with his current club.
