‘You owe him an apology’ - Borussia Dortmund aim dig at Man United over Jadon Sancho

Borussia Dortmund have hit out at Manchester United for ‘wasting’ Jordan Sancho after he put in a man of the match display against PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Borussia Dortmund have aimed a thinly veiled dig at Manchester United following Jadon Sancho’s impressive performance during their 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

Sancho was named man of the match as the Bundesliga side gained a first leg advantage in the Champions League semi-final against the French giants.

The winger showed the qualities that made him one of the highly rated players in the world before he made a big money to United in 2021.

He troubled the PSG defenders, particularly left-back Nuno Mendes, and created loads of chances for his team-mates although it was Niclas Fullkrug’s goal that settled the tie. He completed 12 dribbles against PSG, the most he has ever manage in a single game in his career, more than any player has managed in the Champions League this season and seven more than his best ever total in a game for United.

Sancho has earned praise from pundits and fans following his display with many feeling he was let down by United who failed to get the best out of him before returning to Dortmund on loan and the Bundesliga club took the opportunity to further strengthen that case.

“You all owe him an apology, we were ALWAYS familiar with his game,” Dortmund posted on X, accompanying the comment with a picture of Sancho in action on Wednesday.

Sancho’s form and attitude have been questioned during his time at United and had a public falling out with manager Erik ten Hag when he disagreed with the Dutchman’s assertions that he had been dropped from the squad to face Arsenal in September due to a lack of effort in training.

The winger claimed he had been made the ‘scapegoat,’ comments that did not go down well with Ten Hag who cast him aside while demanding an apology.

Sancho did not issue the apology and was completely frozen out until Dortmund offered him an escape route, albeit on loan, in January.

The England international has since rediscovered his form at Dortmund and it is believed BVB are keen to sign him permanently.

“I really don't know. I'm focused on the present right now,” Sancho told CBS when asked if he would be staying at Dortmund or returning to United next season.

With the Premier League club indicating that they are willing to sell nearly their entire squad, Sancho is believed to be among those on the market, as he would find it hard to work with Ten Hag again if the former Ajax Amsterdam coach is not given his marching orders.
