Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali has received a suspended two-month football ban for breaches of FA Betting Rules and continues his rehabilitation.

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has been handed a suspended two-month ban from competitive football for breaches of FA Betting Rules, the club announced today.

The Italian player has also been fined £20,000 (Ksh 3,373,339.50) and received a formal warning regarding his future conduct.

This suspension comes in addition to a ten-month ban previously imposed by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) on October 27, 2023.

Tonali will be eligible to return to competitive play at the start of the 2024/25 season, provided he commits no further violations.

The FA's independent Regulatory Commission noted the player's "extraordinary and unprecedented" cooperation in the investigation.

"As acknowledged by the FA, the level of assistance Sandro has provided by self-referring and fully cooperating with a subsequent investigation is extraordinary and unprecedented," the club statement reads.

Tonali made full admissions regarding his betting activities, which he disclosed in a scenario devoid of any additional evidence to support misconduct proceedings.

Despite his setbacks, Tonali's brief stint with Newcastle before the ban saw him make 12 appearances, showing promising form.

He is scheduled to make his return to the pitch on Tuesday, August 27, following the conclusion of his suspension.
