There has been speculation on the midfielder’s future after reduced playing time at Stamford Bridge.

After his return to Chelsea as a caretaker manager, Frank Lampard has stated Mason Mount is a huge player.

Mason has been increasingly linked with a move, with Liverpool touted as his next destination, after falling down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old who was an unused substitute in Chelsea's last two games is under a contract that will expire in the summer.

"Mason has always been a fantastic player for me at Derby and Chelsea," Lampard said during his Thursday presser.

"I know he's had a few slight injury problems. I need to speak to him and find out where he's at, but I know what I get from Mason. He's a huge player for Chelsea

"Modern-day football has big squads, and I understand Chelsea might be at the top end. I remember being here before and having that. Maybe in the short term, that's a positive thing for me because everyone can have a clean slate."

Mount, who played under Lampard on loan at Derby County before he moved to Stamford Bridge the year after, will hope the return of the former Everton manager will have a positive impact on his career.

Meanwhile, Lampard – who is taking the coaching reins after Graham Potter was sacked – is hopeful he will enjoy a positive spell as he serves on an interim deal.

"I've come with a belief I can come and help the cause until the end of the season. I'll give my utmost to give the fans what they want until the end of the season," he added.

"There's a lot of talent in the squad. I'm excited to work with that talent and to help them."
