Kenyan defender Joseph Okumu strengthens Reims' resolve against Toulouse, setting the stage for a thrilling Ligue 1 clash in Toulouse.

Kenyan defender Joseph Okumu is gearing up to showcase his defensive prowess as Reims prepares to face Toulouse in a thrilling Ligue 1 encounter at the Stadium de Toulouse this Sunday.

In a match that promises to be a battle of wits, Reims, who currently sit fifth in the Ligue 1 standings, are set to clash with Toulouse, comfortably positioned in the tenth spot.

Reims has had a promising start to their campaign, displaying a penchant for finding the back of the net. However, their penchant for scoring goals has come with a caveat - a tendency to leave themselves vulnerable at the back.

Coach Will Still of Reims is well aware of the challenges that lie ahead, with several key players sidelined due to injuries. However, he remains optimistic about the depth of his squad, emphasizing that football is a collective effort where every player has a vital role to play.

"It's true that we have several injured players, but it's a part of football and the life of a group. For those who haven't played or have played less until now, it's their opportunity to stand up, exist, and be important for the team. I said at the start of the season that everyone would have a role to play, and that everyone would be important at some point. This is the opportunity for some of them, and it is up to us to ensure that the collective responds, and that the absence of these individuals is not felt too much," Coach Will Still affirmed.

The clash with Toulouse poses a significant challenge for Reims, as Toulouse is known for their fast-paced, tough, and efficient style of play. Additionally, the home team has an impressive record against their visitors at the Stadium de Toulouse, remaining unbeaten in their last three encounters.

"How do we approach Toulouse? They're a very good team; they play fast, are tough, aggressive, and efficient. They haven't lost at home for a long, long time. It's going to be an interesting challenge and a match with great intensity. It's up to us to respond collectively," Coach Will Still commented.

Joseph Okumu is expected to be a key figure in Reims' defensive setup as they look to contain Toulouse's attacking prowess. His ability to read the game and make crucial interceptions will be vital for Reims' defensive stability.

The international break saw Toulouse coming off a 1-1 draw against Brest, while Reims had a tough outing against league leaders Monaco, suffering a 3-1 defeat with the help of an old rival. Despite this setback, Reims remains in the European mix, sitting comfortably in fifth place in the Ligue 1 table.

Reims has shown their attacking prowess, yet their defensive record has room for improvement, having kept just two clean sheets this season.

With seven points from their last three away fixtures, they will be hoping for a repeat of their dominant 3-0 victory over Toulouse in February.

However, Les Violets should not be underestimated, as they secured a 1-0 victory at the Stadium Municipal last season thanks to a Zakaria Aboukhlal strike.
