Four Shabana players with past ties to Gor Mahia add intrigue as they prepare to face their former club in the derby.

Struggling Shabana gears up for an intense clash against reigning champions Gor Mahia this Saturday at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu but the spotlight is not just on the match itself.

Four of Shabana’s players, all former Gor Mahia athletes, add layers of intrigue and history to this Nyanza Derby.

Seasoned goalkeeper Fredrick Odhiambo is among those facing his former team.

Having defended the posts for Gor Mahia at one point in his varied career, Odhiambo brings a wealth of experience from his time not only in Kenya with teams like Sofapaka and Wazito but also internationally in Rwanda.

His familiarity with Gor Mahia’s strategies could prove crucial for Shabana as they attempt to thwart the champions.

Burly striker Enock Agwanda is another ex-Gor Mahia player looking to make an impact.

Agwanda, who joined Gor Mahia in 2015 and left two years later due to contractual disagreements is known for his robust physical play and aerial prowess.

During his tenure at K’Ogalo he notably scored a decisive goal against arch-rivals AFC Leopards securing a 2-0 victory.

His ability to score from long throws reminiscent of legendary Tobias Ocholla, might just be the wildcard Shabana needs.

While Lloyd Khavuchi, currently on loan from Gor Mahia, will not play due to contract stipulations, his insider knowledge of Gor Mahia’s tactics could be invaluable to Shabana’s preparations.

His recent partnership with Benson Omala at Gor Mahia provided insights into the attacking strategies that Shabana might face.

Alvin Ochieng', though sidelined for the game owing to the terms of his loan agreement, remains a critical figure in this narrative.

His defensive capabilities were honed at Gor Mahia and despite not being on the field, his tactical insights and experience could play a significant role in how Shabana sets up their defense against a formidable Gor Mahia forward line.

This derby is not just a battle for points but a test of loyalty and strategy involving players who have histories with both clubs.

For Shabana, leveraging the experiences of these former Gor Mahia players could be pivotal in mounting a successful challenge against the champions.

As the teams prepare to face off, the personal battles of Odhiambo, Agwanda, and the insights from Khavuchi and Ochieng' will be just as compelling as the match itself.

This Nyanza Derby is set to be a reunion, a rivalry, and a revelation all rolled into one.
