After a challenging spell in Slovenia the Harambee Stars midfielder has joined Royal Francs Borains in Belgium.

Harambee Stars midfielder Wilkims Ochieng has signed with Belgian football club Royal Francs Borains after a challenging period with Slovenian side FC Koper.

The dynamic midfielder, whose last action was in Slovenia where he departed in July 2023, is set to commence his stint with the Belgian team on July 1, 2024.

During his unveiling, Ochieng expressed his enthusiasm about joining RFB and returning to high-level football in Belgium, a country where he has previously played as a youth international.

"The RFB gives me the chance to return to high level. I will give my all and do everything for the club that has given me this chance to be able to show my qualities. I already feel good in this welcoming group," Ochieng stated.

Ochieng, capable of playing in various attacking positions, highlighted the personal significance of playing close to home.

“When I arrived in Belgium, we settled in Havre where I started playing football. I now live in Saint-Ghislain, a few minutes from the stadium. Finding the high level in your region is a chance," he added.

Founded in 1949, Royal Francs Borains is based in Boussu, Hainaut Province, and competes in the Challenger Pro League, Belgium's second-tier league.

Despite a challenging 2023/24 season where they finished 14th out of 16 teams, the club looks forward to revitalizing its squad with Ochieng's experience and versatility.

They play their home matches at Stade Robert Urbain, which boasts a capacity of 6,000 seats, and don the colors green and white.

Ochieng began his football journey with the youth academy of Mouscron before moving to Club Brugge in 2017 where he was promoted to the senior team in January 2020.

His move to Slovenia's PrvaLiga team Koper in January 2023 was initially seen as a step forward but he cut short his stay after just a year amidst challenging circumstances.

His international career with the Harambee Stars began in November 2021 when he received his maiden call-up from head coach Engin Firat for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Uganda and Rwanda.
