Gor Mahia Suffer Huge Blow as Benson Omalla Reportedly Leaves to Pursue Career Abroad

Benson Omalla has reportedly left Gor Mahia to pursue a fresh opportunity abroad, dealing the club a significant setback.

Gor Mahia striker Benson Omalla left the country on Thursday, July 3, to make his dream of securing a move abroad come true.

Benson Omalla returned to Gor Mahia briefly following a challenging spell abroad with Lebanese Premier League side Al-Safa.

He joined the club in August 2024, fresh off a successful season that saw him earn the top scorer title in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

Benson Omalla joined the Lebanese Premier League club in August 2024. This move followed a prior attempt to join Algerian side JS Saoura, which fell through due to paperwork delays.

However, Benson Omalla's stint in Lebanon was short-lived and troubled, as it was marred by unpaid wages and security concerns in Lebanon.

This was due to the suspension of the Lebanese Premier League due to military strikes in October 2024. Despite the league resuming later, Omalla chose not to return.

He went for three months without receiving his salary, which led him to terminate his contract with the club in January 2025, invoking FIFA regulations that allow players to do so if not paid for two consecutive months.

Upon terminating his contract, Benson Omalla returned to his former club, Gor Mahia, in January 2025.

Upon his return to Gor Mahia, Benson Omalla was sidelined for some time as his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) was held by the Lebanese club, which prevented him from playing competitive matches.

The dispute was escalated to FIFA, which eventually cleared Benson Omalla to play for Gor Mahia in April 2025. His return was seen as a significant boost for Gor Mahia, who were in a tight title race, but his presence failed to make an impact.

Gor Mahia finished second in the FKF Premier League and lost the FKF Cup, following a 2-1 loss to Nairobi United in the final match at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Omalla's return to Gor Mahia was his third stint with the club. He had previously played for them from 2020-2021 and 2022-2024, contributing significantly to their back-to-back FKF Premier League titles with a total of 45 goals in those seasons.

However, his dream of going abroad has not faded, as it has been reported by Michezo Afrika that he is looking for new opportunities beyond Africa, with interest from clubs in Europe and Asia.
