Ambrose Rachier has revealed a three-part approach Gor Mahia will use to reshape the squad ahead of the new season.

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has revealed three criteria K’Ogalo will use to offload the squad during the transfer window.

Gor Mahia have struggled to make a mark in the 2023/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League, failing to defend their title as Kenya Police reigned supreme.

Gor Mahia finished second on the table with 59 points, having won 16 of their matches, drawn 11, and lost seven. Kenya Police were crowned champions following their impressive run that saw them end their season with 65 points after winning 18 matches, drawing 11 and losing five.

K’Ogalo were looking to end their season with the FKF Cup at least, but they struggled to make a point in the final, losing 2-1 against Nairobi United, who also claimed the National Super League crown.

Now, as Gor Mahia are looking to restructure, they have already sent the entire technical bench packing, and the attention has since shifted to the players.

Ambrose Rachier noted that for the players whose contracts are ending this season, there are only two options on how things will work out.

He revealed that players who failed to impress will be released and if there are those who the team feels they should stay, their contracts will be renewed.

Rachier noted that they will have a one-on-one meeting with every player whose contract will be expiring and explain their decisions.

“We have players whose contracts have expired, that’s one category, and where we are convinced that we don’t want to renew, they will just go,” Ambrose Rachier said.

“There is no question of getting rid of them, and we shall just tell them that their contract is over and we are not renewing.”

Ambrose Rachier also put the players who did not live up to the billing on notice, revealing that they will be dismissed.

He noted that there has been an assessment done on every player throughout the season and that is what will be used to decide the fate of the players.

Rachier further insisted that no player will be dismissed without their knowledge, pointing out that the club is looking to avoid issues with FIFA.

“The next category is those that are non-performers; now these will be judged, and we have received an assessment already from the coaches,” he said.

“It includes an analysis of the playing time and also the performance. We have those who will go because of failing to meet the standards, and that will also be done on mutual ground, so that we avoid these FIFA cases.”

Ambrose Rachier and Gor Mahia will also release players who are interested in leaving the club to pursue other interests or join other clubs.

He revealed that two players have already expressed their interest in leaving the club. Ambrose Rachier also intends to work with the relevant people to make proper signings.

“The third category is those who want to leave for different reasons. We already have about two players who have said they want to move,” he said.

“Those will be treated differently, and there are different kinds of criteria that we shall use to offload and onload.”

With clear criteria now set, Gor Mahia have entered a decisive phase of rebuilding, as Ambrose Rachier leads efforts to streamline the squad and position the club for a stronger comeback next season.
