Gor Mahia are close to completing the signing of Rwanda international defender Emery Bayisenge on a free transfer, according to reports in Rwanda.

According to reports from Rwanda, the 28-year-old is rumored to have joined the record Premier League champions on an 18-month contract with an option to extend for another year.

Bayisenge became available after the end of his contract with Bangladesh-based side Saif SC, a club he joined in November 2021.

Should the move be complete he will team up with his former coach Jonathan McKinstry whom he worked under in Rwanda national team.

Bayisenge is best remembered in his homeland for guiding Rwanda to the quarter-finals of the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament that was hosted in the country.

Before being promoted to the senior side, he had captained the U-17 Amavubi Starlets that competed at the 2011 FIFA U17 World Cup in Mexico.

The defender previously featured for AS Kigali, APR FC, Isonga FC in Rwanda Football League, Morrocan club KAC de Kénitra and USM Alger from Algeria.

Some years ago, Bayisenge had reportedly signed a one-year contract with Austria’s second-division side Linz FC, but the deal fell through after he failed to secure a work permit.

He also had trials at French side Toulouse FC in 2012 and Belgian outfit  Zulte Walgem in 2013.

Bayisenge has 43 caps for Rwanda, having made his senior national team debut in 2012.

It is worth noting that Gor Mahia are currently serving a FIFA transfer ban for failing to settle the dues of former players Dickson Ambudo and Owusu Jackson.

The East African football giants are, however, working to have the ban lifted before the opening of the mid season transfer window.
