Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard recently opened up about his regret of not playing under Jose Mourinho, despite coming close to joining Chelsea during his career. On the Vibe with Five podcast, Gerrard expressed his belief that Mourinho could have enhanced his skills and added more trophies to his collection.

Gerrard's Candid Admission

During a recent conversation on the Vibe with Five podcast, Steven Gerrard, a revered Liverpool legend and current coach at Al-Ettifaq, revealed a sense of regret over not having the opportunity to play under renowned manager Jose Mourinho.

Gerrard acknowledged that he was on the verge of making a decision to join Chelsea but ultimately stayed true to his roots at Liverpool, a decision he has faced criticism for in the media.

"I have regrets for not playing for the man and the coach," Gerrard told the Vibe with Five podcast, per Yardbarker. "Because I know he would have made me a better player. I know he would have added more trophies to what I've already won.

"I was close to making the decision whether to go [to Chelsea] or stay, but my dad's a big Liverpool fan and my brother and all my friends.

"I've had a lot of criticism in the media saying 'he should have gone to Chelsea', but for me I knew I always wanted to come home. I'm biased to Liverpool."

Mourinho's Potential Impact

In his candid reflection, Gerrard acknowledged the potentially transformative impact Mourinho could have had on his career. The former midfielder expressed confidence that Mourinho's guidance would have elevated his playing abilities and contributed to his trophy cabinet.
