Custodian Mathias Kigonya joins newly promoted Zambian side Trident FC on one-year deal.

Former Sofapaka FC goalkeeper Mathis Kigonya has found a new home at Zambian side Trident Football Club after leaving his previous club more than six months ago.

The 27-year-old custodian left Sofapaka in January, terminating his contract with the 2009 Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions.

His departure came after just five months since rejoining the club following his stint with Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC.

Kigonya, a seasoned player capped 8 times for the Uganda national team, brings a wealth of experience to his new team.

Previously featuring at Kakamega Homeboyz, he returned to Sofapaka for his second spell but found himself playing second fiddle to the first-choice goalkeeper, Kevin Omondi.

The Zambian Super League outfit  expressed their excitement in welcoming the talented Ugandan international goalkeeper.

"Trident Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Ugandan International goalkeeper, Mathias Kigonya, from Kenyan Premier League (FKFPL) outfit, Sofapaka FC,” the club wrote.

The move marks Kigonya's second return to the Zambia Super League, having previously turned out for Forest Rangers.

His decision to part ways with Sofapaka might have been a tough one, but it opened the door to new opportunities.

Joining a club like Trident offers him a fresh start and a chance to showcase his skills in a different footballing landscape.

"I am thrilled to be a part of Trident Football Club. The club's ambition and vision align with my own, and I believe this is the perfect platform for me to grow as a player and contribute to the team's success," Kigonya told reporters.

With his international experience and knowledge of African football, Kigonya is poised to make a significant impact on the team's fortunes in the upcoming season.
