Nairobi United are 90 minutes away from making history in the FKF Cup final, but know it will not be easy against Gor Mahia.

Nairobi United's Bichiok Diang has described their upcoming FKF Cup final against Gor Mahia as ‘just another game’ with the club eyeing more history a week after clinching the National Super League title to win promotion to the FKF Premier League.

The Naiboys have floored several other FKF Premier League teams - namely KCB, Tusker, Kakamega Homeboyz and Mara Sugar en-route to the cup final, and are now just 90 minutes away from history.

Speaking exclusively to Pulse Sports ahead of the final set to take place at Ulinzi Sports Complex from 3.00 PM, Diang explained what his teammates must do if they are to stand a chance of glory against Gor Mahia, who will be looking to make amends following their league title miss.

“The game is played on the pitch. We can only follow the coaches’ instructions and work hard and from there, we are sure it will not be difficult,” Bichiok said.

With many in the Nairobi United squad set to feature in their first major final, Diang insists they are ready and motivated.

“It is a huge deal because most players have not played there before. It has finally come and we are very ready.”

While fans may speculate that Gor Mahia are clear favorites given their pedigree and experience, it is understandable why many would write off United’s chances, especially with the club never even kicking a ball in the topflight before.

Diang says the team is keeping its focus, and believes the Gor Mahia playing and technical unit will not take any chances on them.

“I think the playing and coaching units do not think about underrating. The fans can, but the players cannot afford to underestimate each other. They have seen we are not pushovers, so it will not be easy.”

Diang embraces the underdog mentality, confident his team can pull off a memorable upset.

“We have nothing to lose. We want to go play well and hopefully win the game,” said Diang.

“Gor is not an exception. Beating them is possible. It is all about chances. Other people have gotten the opportunity to be here and now it is our turn, and maybe we might win it.”

And while he’s determined to win, there’s no hiding the personal meaning this final holds.

“It is an amazing feeling. I have admired Gor Mahia for a long time, so facing them will also be an honour.”
