Nairobi United will be facing Gor Mahia in the final of the FKF Cup on June 14.

Nairobi United captain Isaack Otieno has issued a firm statement of intent ahead of the FKF Cup final, warning record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia that his side is coming for the crown on June 14.

Fresh off securing promotion to the FKF Premier League for the first time in the club’s history, the Naiboys are brimming with belief as they prepare to face a wounded K’Ogalo side desperate to salvage their season after a faltering league campaign.

Otieno, who has been a pivotal figure in Nairobi United’s fairytale run, made it clear that reaching the final isn’t enough — the team wants to make history by lifting the trophy.

“It is a great feeling. When we were starting, we wanted to fight because we knew the quality we had,” said Otieno. “As the rounds progressed, we started realising we had the capability in us to go all the way.”

The Naiboys booked their place in the final after drawing 1-1 with Mara Sugar in regular time, before goalkeeper Ernest Mohammed became the hero in the shootout with a series of penalty saves that sealed United’s place in the final for the first time ever.

“We put all the effort in because we wanted to play in the final and it is a very good feeling,” Otieno continued. “We want to go all the way. We want to be playing in the CAF Confederation Cup next season. We want this trophy.”

With Gor Mahia still licking their wounds after a costly 1-1 draw against AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby — a result that all but ended their league title hopes — Otieno is looking to pile on the pain.

“I will keep encouraging them,” he said of his teammates. “We have gotten to the final but we do not stop there. Our target is to clinch the trophy in the next round.”

A win in the final would not only cap a dream season for Nairobi United but also earn them a historic ticket to represent Kenya in continental football.

About Nairobi United

Nairobi United is one of Kenya’s rising football clubs, currently making headlines for their impressive performances both in league and cup competitions.

Despite being relatively young and less established compared to traditional Kenyan football giants like Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, Nairobi United have quickly built a reputation for being ambitious, organized, and tactically disciplined.

Buoyed by the backing of the Nairobi County government under the leadership of governor Johnson Sakaja, their success has been driven by a strong team ethic, emerging local talent, and resilient performances, particularly in high-stakes matches.
