The Netherlands record scorer Robin Van Persie has taken a step further in his coaching career, securing his first senior role.

In a significant development reported by the AD, former Dutch international striker Robin van Persie is poised to assume the managerial role at SC Heerenveen for the upcoming season, replacing current manager Kees van Wonderen.

Transition to Management

Van Persie, who has been coaching youth teams at Feyenoord since 2020, expressed his desire to progress to a senior managerial position and has been making moves to progress in his career, including returning to Manchester United's training ground at Carrington to complete a crucial part of his UEFA licence.

Despite Feyenoord's efforts to retain him within their youth setup, Van Persie has set his sights on advancing his career in management.

Missed Opportunity at Feyenoord

Despite his association with Feyenoord and his past contributions as a striker and technique trainer with the first team, the club showed no interest in appointing Van Persie as the replacement for outgoing manager Arne Slot.

Slot is expected to depart Feyenoord to join English side Liverpool, leaving Van Persie seeking opportunities elsewhere.

Impressive Playing Career:

Van Persie's illustrious playing career boasts numerous accolades, including triumphs in the English Premier League, UEFA Cup, KNVB Beker, and FA Cup.

Additionally, he holds the record for the highest number of goals scored for the Netherlands national team, with 50 goals in 102 appearances. Having retired from professional football in 2019, Van Persie now looks to make his mark in the world of football management.

Heerenveen's Current Standing

As Heerenveen prepares for the transition, they currently occupy the tenth position in the Eredivisie league table with three matches remaining.

The team faced a daunting 0-8 defeat to PSV in their recent fixture, highlighting the challenges awaiting Van Persie as he takes on the managerial reins.
