The FIFA Club World Cup will kick off in the United States on Saturday with a number of big names set to feature but who are the African stars flying the continent’s flag?

Anticipation is building towards the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup set to kick off on Saturday June 14 in the United States.

Each of the 32 participating teams will name a squad of between 28 and 35 players and at the 2025 tournament, there will be players from 81 countries.

Among them are a host of big-name African players who will hope to light up the tournament and they do not just represent the four teams from the continent but they are spread across most of the sides taking part.

Rayan Ait-Nouri

Algerian left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri has signed just in time to make it to the tournament, having joined Premier League giants Manchester City this week, from Wolves and will make his debut for the Citizens at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Omar Marmoush

Another Manchester City player from Africa is Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush who joined Pep Guardiola’s side in January from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt and has scored eight goals in 22 matches for the English club.

Nicolas Jackson

Ivorian striker Nicolas Jackson will be hoping to fire Premier League side Chelsea to Club World Cup glory as he will be the main man upfront even after the signing of English forward Liam Delap last week.

Jackson has scored 13 goals in 34 games this season, his second year at Chelsea, although injuries hampered him but he is back and raring to go.

Stephane Aziz Ki

Burkina Faso international Stephane Aziz Ki is also another big name hoping to light up the Club World Cup after joining Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club just in time for the tournament.

Ki is a highly-rated attacking midfielder who enjoyed three successful years with Tanzanian giants Yanga and will hope to pay back part of the $360,000 (Ksh46.5 million) transfer fee paid for him during the month-long event.

Ronwen Williams

South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams is one of the big names in the star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns team and he will be the last line of defence, hoping to prove why he is the reigning African Goalkeeper of the Year and a 2024 Ballon d’Or nominee.

Williams has had another stellar year, winning the league and reaching the CAF Champions League final, and his qualities will be tested to the limit at the Club World Cup.

Serhou Guirassy

Guinea's superstar Serhou Guirassy has been sensational for Dortmund this season.

Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy has enjoyed a great debut season with German giants Borussia Dortmund, managing 34 goals in 45 games since his big-money move from Stuttgart last summer, and will be one of those to watch out for in the US.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly has been one of the best in the world in his position especially when he played for Napoli before a short stint at Chelsea and is now representing Saudi giants Al-Hilal at the Club World Cup, seeking to prove that his best days are not behind him.

Mohamed El Shenawy

Al Ahly captain Mohamed el Shenawy is one of the best goalkeepers in Africa.

Al Ahly’s long-serving goalkeeper and captain Mohamed El Shenawy is not new to the Club World Cup, having been a bronze medal winner three times before.

El Shenawy has been a safe pair of hands for Al Ahly since 2016 and is in his ninth season at the club, hoping to lead the team to an improved performance this time.

Gabon forward Denis Bouanga is one of the deadly offensive players headed to the Club World Cup as he will be representing MLS club LA FC for which he has scored eight goals and chipped in with four assists in 15 games so far this campaign.

Youcef Belaili

Another Algerian player on the list, Youcef Belaili who plays for Tunisian giants Esperance, heads to the tournament after a great campaign in Tunisia when he helped the club to a treble.

Belaili is the second highest scorer at Esperance this season with nine goals while he has added six assists playing from the left wing and defenders will have to be wary of him.

Nordin Amrabat

Not a new name to many followers of football in Africa and Europe, Moroccan winger Nordin Amrabat has opted to return home after agreeing a deal with Wydad just before they flew out to the United States.

The 38-year-old brings plenty of experience, having played in England with Watford and Hull City, in Spain, Turkey, Netherlands and Greece which will be vital at the tournament.
