Mathare United have received a shot in the arm after sealing a multi-million sponsorship deal for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

FKF Premier League side Mathare United can look forward to a less stressful 2024-25 season after landing a multi-million sponsorship deal.

Mathare unveiled gaming firm 1xBet as their new shirt sponsor for next season, covering both the men’s and women’s team, and will receive a substantial sum from the company founded in Cyprus in 2007.

From the deal, Mathare will earn $160,000 (Ksh20.6 million) with the 1xBet logo emblazoned at the front of both the home and away kits for the men’s and women’s teams for the entirety of the 2025-26 campaign.

The partnership will last for one season but the firm has an option to extend for a further year with the men’s team already donning 1xBet-branded kits during their last Premier League game, which they won 1-0 against Ulinzi Stars on May 17.

Mathare Delighted With ‘New Dawn’ After Big Partnership

“Choosing to partner with a team that was recently promoted to the top-flight shows the belief that 1xBet has in our club. I term this partnership as a new dawn and one that allows us to go out and achieve our dreams,” said Mathare CEO Jecton Obure.

Meanwhile, the gaming firm said it was drawn to Mathare due to its unique story that has seen it act as a key pillar for societal change through football in Kenya’s informal settlements.

“Mathare United is a story about the power of sport as a tool for change. That is why we chose this club. We are not just sponsoring football. We are investing in the youth and future,” said Kennedy Mumo, 1xBet’s director of operations in Kenya.

Mathare were promoted back to the top flight this season, having spent the 2023-24 campaign in the second tier, and have done well as they are on course to sealing a top 10 finish with two matches remaining.

The Slum Boys, currently placed 10th on the 18-team log with 40 points, can finish as high as seventh place, if they win their two remaining matches against Bandari and Nairobi City Stars, while results elsewhere go their way.
