Gor Mahia played Ulinzi Stars off the park to sail back to the summit of the FKF Premier League at Tusker's expense.

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has revealed how ‘emotional’ he was as his side executed ‘some of the best football ever seen in Kenya this year’ after his side took apart Ulinzi Stars in a match played at the Kasarani Stadium on Sunday afternoon to return to the top of the table.

Goals by Austin Odhiambo and John Macharia were enough to put Gor Mahia first on 67 points, two ahead of Tusker who were beaten 2-1 by relegation battling Wazito at the dreaded Muhoroni Stadium at the same time.

“I am very pleased,” he said, “ You have heard me say before that this is a very young team and we are trying to build something,” he added.

“Today, there were some things about both halves that made me feel almost emotional as a coach because there was some real beauty about our play. We know that the players that come into the team who do not play every week are maturing and developing and we are supporting them on that.

“It is tough to play for Gor and want to develop because of the pressure but there were parts of that game that were beautiful which I do not think have been witnessed in Kenya this year and the supporters absolutely loved.”

The former Uganda Cranes and Sierra Leone tactician is however, not getting carried away as the title win is still far away from being achieved.]

“It was a good win for us. Everyone was getting over our backs after a run of three games without a win and people were declaring our rivals (Tusker) as champions but we knew this league is difficult.

“We expected our rivals to trip up again but again people will walk away from the stadium declaring champions which is not true. There are two big games to come up for both teams.”
