Diogo Jota’s wife has opened up about her husband’s tragic passing with a moving message as she celebrated the couple’s one-month wedding anniversary.

Rute Cardoso, the 28-year-old widow of footballer Diogo Jota, shared a moving tribute to her late husband one month after their wedding. The ceremony took place just 11 days before Jota's tragic death.

Cardoso posted three photos from their wedding day on social media, captioning them: "One month of our 'until death do us part'. Forever, your white girl."

The images show the couple walking hand-in-hand, displaying their wedding rings, and sharing their first dance. In the photos, Jota is seen smiling broadly.

Jota, also 28, tragically died in a car crash in early July, along with his brother, André Silva. Reports indicate Jota was driving a Lamborghini in Zamora, Spain, when a tire burst, causing the car to veer off the road and catch fire. Police believe Jota was driving at the time.

The football world mourned the loss of the Premier League champion and his brother. Condolences poured in for Rute and their children.

Just 20 hours before the accident, the couple had shared a joint social media post celebrating their wedding as a "day we will never forget." Rute commented, "My dream came true," to which Jota replied, "But I'm the lucky one."

Rute Was Jota’s Number One Fan

The high school sweethearts had been together for 13 years and had two sons, Dinis, 4, and Duarte, 2, and a baby daughter. Jota had just left his family after having lunch with them in a Portuguese coastal resort.

A self-described "number one fan," Rute had supported Jota throughout his career in Portugal, Spain, and England, playing for both Liverpool and Wolves.

Teammates and fans worldwide paid their respects to Jota. Mourners attended his funeral in Portugal, and tributes, including flowers and jerseys with his number 20, were placed outside Anfield.

Liverpool retired Jota's number 20 across all club teams. Manager Arne Slot endorsed the decision, stating, "We will always carry him with us in our hearts, in our thoughts, wherever we go. Maybe especially in difficult moments, but in any moment we are here, we will carry him with us in our thoughts and in our hearts. To retire his shirt is the one thing we could, should, and have done.”

Liverpool's pre-season return, originally scheduled for July 5th, was postponed following the accident. A week later, the team held an emotional friendly against Preston.

Before kickoff, a rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone" filled the stadium, followed by a minute's silence for Jota and his brother. Tributes were displayed on screens and pitchside LEDs, and both teams wore black armbands. Liverpool supporters chanted Jota's name throughout the match.
