One Chelsea player has stressed the importance of the Blues’ clash with Newcastle in their Champions League pursuit, while crediting Enzo Maresca for his improved form.

Noni Madueke has emphasised the significance of Chelsea's Premier League match against Newcastle, expressing confidence that the Blues can secure a crucial three points in their pursuit of Champions League qualification.

The Blues visit Tyneside on Sunday lunchtime, seeking maximum points to go three points clear of the Magpies in the showdown. 

Madueke, who has been deployed on the left flank in recent matches under Enzo Maresca, has spoken on the importance of securing maximum points at St James’ Park and his improvement under the Italian manager.

Madueke speak on progress under Maresca

The wide attacker has scored 11 goals and supplied five assists in the 2024-25 season heading into Sunday’s fixture. 

Although his numbers have been enhanced by playing in the Conference League, Madueke has highlighted how his football is different under Maresca.

“He has helped me in certain aspects of my game, with my numbers for sure,” Madueke told Chelseafc.com.

“He has helped me try to be in the right positions to try to affect the game as much as possible and show my qualities.”

The 23-year-old winger also discussed the importance of their recent win against Liverpool as a major step forward and stated the team's determination to win their remaining games. 

“Everyone knows we have aspirations to finish in the Champions League positions, and the great win against Liverpool was a massive step forward,” remarked Madueke.

“Now I just want to win the rest of the games. I’m not too bothered about what I do as an individual, in the best way possible.”
