The Gunners have received unexpected financial backing from a top Kenyan lawyer amid a transfer standoff involving Victor Gyökeres.

Arsenal's long-drawn pursuit of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres has taken an unexpected twist with a top Kenyan lawyer stepping in with a bold financial offer.

The North London club has been entangled in a minor transfer deadlock with Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon over the structure of a €2.5 million add-on fee, a standoff that has left fans across the globe baffled.

Top lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi, a Senior Counsel and one of Kenya’s most prominent legal minds, has now publicly offered to foot the contentious sum, expressing frustration at the delay in completing the deal.

“£2.5m is holding the transfer of Victor Gyökeres to Arsenal. SAD! I want to publicly inform both @Arsenal and @m8arteta that I'm willing to pay the same so that the player can join the team in their pre-season tour in Singapore! @WehliyeMohamed,” Abdullahi posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The deal, which initially appeared to be nearing completion, involves an upfront fee of €63 million (approximately Ksh 9.45 billion) and €10 million (approximately Ksh 1.5 billion) in performance-related add-ons.

However, both clubs have hit a snag over the remaining €2.5 million (Ksh 375 million), a relatively small portion—just 3.4%—of the overall agreement.

A Global Fanbase, Local Frustration

Abdullahi’s intervention comes as Arsenal fans, particularly in Africa, express growing impatience with what many perceive as the club’s chronic indecision in the transfer market.

The lawyer’s willingness to contribute such a significant amount underscores the global passion the club commands, especially in football-loving nations like Kenya.

The sticking point between Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon concerns the terms of the final add-on payment.

Arsenal wants it tied to major achievements—such as winning the Premier League or Champions League—while Sporting prefers it to be triggered once Gyökeres makes 40 appearances over two seasons, regardless of silverware.

That such a small fee is holding up a potentially game-changing signing has left fans dumbfounded, with some calling the situation “embarrassing” for a club of Arsenal’s stature.

Abdullahi's Continued Loyalty to the Gunners

This is not the first time Abdullahi has made headlines for standing by his club financially. In 2021, he proposed a global fundraising initiative to help Arsenal sign top talent, tweeting: “I'm seriously considering a global crowdfunding initiative to buy a player or two for Arsenal. I think we can raise tens of millions.”

His latest pledge adds to a growing chorus of African voices eager to see Arsenal return to the summit of English and European football.

Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote has previously expressed his intent to buy the club in a deal reportedly worth £2 billion, though that ambition is yet to materialize.
