FOOTBALL AFC Leopards dumped out of FKF Cup as Homeboyz seal maiden final

The former Ulinzi Stars forward scored a goal and created an assist in the FKF Cup semis.

Kakamega Homeboyz proved why they were awarded all three points against AFC Leopards in April following their controversial match as they beat Ingwe 2-1 in the second FKF semi-final on Saturday.

The first real opportunity by either side came in the 20th minute when Felicen Okanda ran at pace down the right flank before hitting a low cross to Ambrose Sifuna, but his shot was not enough to test Leopards custodian Levis Opiyo’s resolve.

Jaffari Owiti would then produce Ingwe’s first shot on target in the 24th minute when he drilled a shot from the left flank towards Farouk Shikhalo’s far post, but the Kenyan international did well to save the attempt.

After a period of sustained pressure by Ingwe, Homeboyz took the lead in the 29th minute when Kevin Amwayi delivered a dangerous cross which Opiyo failed to come for before it landed onto the head of Moses Shummah who scored much to the dismay of Ingwe fans.

Just two minutes later, Amwayi would score one himself. He received the ball inside the box and left right back Peter Thiongo and center back Washington Munene for dead before hitting the ball past Opiyo’s near post. Like a bolt out of the blue, Homeboyz were two goals to the good.

An injury to Kayici Odhiambo forced Patrick Aussems, who was already pondering how to reduce the deficit to sub him off for Robert Mudenyu in the 38th minute. He also subbed off Maxwell Otieno for Cliff Nyakeya in efforts to add pace to his side.

After the break, Leopards had the chance to reduce the deficit in the 48th minute when they won a freekick on the edge of the area, but the attempt hit the side netting.

Homeboyz could have made it three just four minutes later when Shammah got the rare chance to break at pace after they turned the possession over, but his attempt was not enough to trouble Opiyo.

In the 60th minute, Homeboyz nearly sealed the tie when Cliff Nyakeya carelessly turned over possession on the edge of the box.

Ambrose Sifuna and Kevin Amway created a two v one situation on Thiongo, but the former's touch was too heavy as he was carrying the ball towards goal.

Jaffari Owiti hit a dangerous shot from a short corner kick routine and was deflected wide again for a corner in the 64th minute.

In the 83rd Minute, Brian Eshianda nearly got a goal for Homeboyz from the corner kick, but his shot sailed wide off target. Nyakeya finally reduced the deficit in the 89th minute when he drilled a low shot into the back of Shikalo's net.

Homeboyz will now face Tusker in the final of the Mozzart Bet Cup.
