A rare player who comes once in a lifetime - Bonmati explains why Yamal is greater than Messi, Ronaldo

A back-to-back Ballon d'Or winner has sung the praises of Barcelona teenage sensation Lamine Yamal to the high heavens.

Barcelona Femeni superstar Aitana Bonmatí has hailed Lamine Yamal for his exceptional and rare talent.

The current best player in the women's game told ESPN that she's probably not watched a 17-year-old as good as the Barcelona prodigy.

27-year-old Bonmati would have been old enough to watch both Messi and Ronaldo when they were both teenagers but doesn't think either of them comes close to Yamal.

Bonmati said: "I believe he is one of those players who comes around only once in a while, very rarely, and who has something innate.

"He has surely worked tremendously hard, but what he does at his age on football pitches, on any football pitch, because what he did in the Inter tie, despite Barça not advancing, is quite spectacular.

"I don't know if it has been seen before in a player of his age, but for me what he has going for him, or what it seems from the outside, is that he doesn't think too much.

"He doesn't overthink things, he's not afraid, he's not afraid of failing, he's not afraid of disappointing, he thinks of nothing but the ball. And that is often what makes footballers great, isn't it?

At just 17 years of age, Lamine Yamal has over a 100 caps for Barcelona already, and recorded double digit goals and assists. He has 16 goals and 24 assists across all competitions in this current season.

Yamal has also won the European Championship with Spain, and enjoyed success with Barcelona — the Catalan club is just two points away from clinching another La Liga title, which will be the second in Yamal's fledgling career.

It’s a shame Yamal will not be in the UCL final - Bonmati

Back-to-back Ballon d'Or Féminin winner Bonmatí was live at the San Siro to watch Barcelona take on Inter Milan and she was blown away by the display by Yamal and his teammates.

However, Bonmati was gutted that Barcelona couldn't make it through to the final of the Champions League despite a spirited performance that saw them come back from two goals down to lead 3-2 on the night.

It was not to be, as 37-year-old Acerbi rescued Inter with a last minute equaliser to send the tie to extra time where the Italian side prevailed.

Bonmati said: "I've lost my voice because of that game... or thanks to that game," she added. "It was a unique experience. It was the first time watching Barça's men's team outside of Barcelona. I had never had the chance to go to another European stadium and watch them.

"I had two days off and I didn't think twice. It was a spectacular semifinal. Despite the loss, it was a throwback to that feeling of being a fan, when I was a kid.

"I'm on the other side of it every week, with the fans in the stadium, but for that day I was a kid again, experiencing a game as a supporter, forgetting Aitana the footballer and being Aitana the person.

"The result was a shame because they deserved more."

Barcelona missed out on a chance to join their female team in the UCL final. Barcelona Femeni are overwhelming favourites for their Champions League final against Arsenal on June 7.
