Among the proposed participants for the Africa Super League is Nigeria's record champion Enyimba.

Nigeria's prestigious Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, will on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 play host to a delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and the world's football governing body FIFA, ahead of the proposed Africa Super League (ASL).

The competition, proposed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino in November 2019 and launched in August 2022, will see 24 of Africa's elite football clubs compete with the aim of growing the value of football in Africa through investments, sponsors, development funds, and improved infrastructure.

Uyo or Abuja to serve as Enyimba's home ground

A FIFA/CAF delegation that arrived in the country via Abuja on Monday, March 13, will on Wednesday, March 15, head to Uyo where they will visit and inspect facilities in three top hotels including Ibom Icon Hotels Uyo, Four Points by Sheraton Hotels Ikot Ekpene and Monty Hotels Limited Uyo.

During their time in the South-southern city, they will also inspect facilities at the 'Nest of Champions' and the training pitch.

Only two venues: Uyo's Godswill Akpabio Stadium and the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja have been considered good enough by the CAF to host the competition - one of which Enyimba will have to adopt as their home ground.

At the moment, current Nigerian champions Rivers United play their home matches in the CAF Confederation Cup at the 30000-seater in Uyo.

$100 million at stake in Africa Super League

CAF have earlier announced that the ASL will run on a budget of $200 million and is expected to kick off in August 2023.

About $100 million will be split between the 24 participating clubs, with each team guaranteed a minimum of $2.5 million while the winner will receive a whopping $11.6 million.

The likes of 10-time CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly, Egyptian giants Zamalek, South Africa's duo of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates, Morocco's city rivals Wydad Casablanca and Raja Casablanca, CAF Confederations Cup defending champions RS Berkane, Simba of Uganda, Yanga of Tanzania, and five-time CAF Champions League winners TP Mazembe are some of the teams to compete alongside Nigeria's Enyimba.
