The experienced defender was rock solid as less fancied Mathare United slew Ingwe.

Mathare United caretaker coach Samuel Koko has heaped praise on defender David “Cheche” Ochieng after his eye-catching display in Sunday’s 1-0 win over AFC Leopards.

The 30-year-old did not put a foot wrong, blocking an array of attacks from Ingwe’s dangermen Cliff Nyakeya and Victor Omune.

Koko lauded Cheche following the game and expressed his delight for the experienced defender for his combat style of play and physical presence at the back.

“ We are impressed with his leadership skills at the backline and his experience where he has been able to show the young Gideon Were the way.

Cheche is one of the solid defenders. If we had youngsters at the backline against, Leopards could have struggled,” said Koko.

Cheche rejoined Mathare United as a free agent in the current mid-season transfer window, which will close on March 27.

Mathare is expected to add new faces to its roster after parting ways with Agustine Kuta, Mustafa Oduor, Samson Otieno, Valdo Mandegwa, Reegan Onyango, and Dennis Isukhwe.

“ We will get more signings to strengthen nearly all the departments. We are trying to work out the system confirmation, but we will have finalized the deal by Tuesday.

We are going to reinforce midfield and striking, and also, if we get an experienced goalkeeper, it will make us strong as we are relying on two young goalminders,” Koko added.
