The American is among those who chose to participate in the new venture, though stars like Noah Lyles and Sha'Carri Richardson gave the inaugural edition a wide berth.

Grand Slam Track offers its athletes more money than they otherwise would have gotten elsewhere, as competitors look to keep their skills sharp and wallets filled between the Olympics. In the same vein, World Athletics has also increased how much its competitors make.

At the 2026 World Athletics Ultimate Championships, athletes will get a share of the $10 million prize purse across various events, depending on where they finish as reported by the Mirror.

The publication further reveals that those who finish in first place in their individual events will earn $150,000, while second place nets them $75,000. The prize money then drops off dramatically after that, with the 16th-place finisher taking home $2,000.

Meanwhile, first-place finishers in relays will take home $80,000 while those who finish in eighth will pocket $8,000.

After seeing how much the World Athletics Ultimate Championship will be awarding its athletes in 2026, Thomas posted a response on X, formerly Twitter. "No because @aleisohanian and @athlos really changed the game - you love to see it."

The Ultimate Championship will begin in 2026, with the event slated to begin on September 11 and conclude on September 13. In a statement from 2024, World Athletics president Seb Coe hopes that the new event will be one fans will gravitate toward because of the increased stakes for each involved.
