Sasha Zhoya has pulled out of the Philadelphia Grand Slam Track meet aiming for a full recovery ahead of key summer races.

French hurdler Sasha Zhoya will not compete in this weekend’s third leg of the Grand Slam Track series in Philadelphia, citing an Achilles tendon issue that has persisted since early May.

The 22-year-old is prioritizing his long-term health and performance, especially with major competitions looming in the coming weeks.

Zhoya had already skipped the Atlanta meet on May 16th after aggravating his tendons during an intensive training camp in Florida.

Despite the discomfort, he impressed in the Miami leg of the Grand Slam Track series, clocking personal bests of 13.06 seconds in the 110m hurdles and 10.36 in the 100m.

However, medical staff advised caution, prompting his decision to withdraw from further U.S. races until later this summer.

According to French outlet L'Équipe, Zhoya is undergoing treatment and tailored training to manage inflammation in both Achilles tendons. The French Athletics Federation has supported his decision, acknowledging the importance of preserving his form for a demanding international calendar.

The young hurdler has emphasized that his goal is to return stronger, not rushed.

“My body needs time to heal properly so I can give my best when it matters most,” he said through a team statement.

Zhoya’s return is scheduled for the Rome Diamond League on June 6, followed by his home appearance at the Paris Diamond League on June 20th.

These events serve as crucial tune-ups before he returns to the United States for the Grand Slam Track final in Los Angeles from June 27–29.

With the World Championships in Tokyo fast approaching Zhoya’s measured approach could prove vital as he eyes further records and possibly a spot on the podium later this year.
