Marcell Jacobs has opened up on his progress in training since he relocated to the US and how he is finding life there.

Double Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs has shared how life has changed following last year’s poor run that saw him fail to make the final of the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Following the tough season, Jacobs decided to change coaches and relocate to the US with his family, where he has been working under the tutelage of American Rana Reider after parting ways with Paolo Camossi, whose wing he had been under for some time.

The Italian admitted that life in the US has been great so far and he has spent most of his time with his family and training as he prepares for the events lined up this season.

He opened his season with a second-place finish at the East Coast Relays held at the University of North Florida Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on Saturday, April 27.

“A lot of change from last year after Budapest, a lot of injuries and I decided to change everything. This year, we have the Olympics and I’m the Olympic champion so I’ve tried doing everything to have a swift comeback and become stronger than before," Jacobs said.

“Life in the US, in Jacksonville, is really quiet and I’m there with my family and life revolves around training and going back home.

“However, I’m really happy, and competing last weekend was just part of the training and now we are here with my team and we are focused on this race.” Jacobs said.

Ahead of defending his title at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Jacobs admitted that he is under no pressure despite the tough opposition that awaits him from the likes of two-time World 200m champion Noah Lyles.

“Being the defending champion ahead of the Olympic Games does not give me a lot of pressure but the motivation to go and work hard and win. I know it’s not easy, Noah Lyles is the man now but I will do all my best to arrive there and do my best,” he added.
