World 1500m champion Josh Kerr has responded to track rival Jakob Ingebrigtsen's unwarranted attacks.

Reigning World 1500m champion Josh Kerr has maturely responded to two-time World 5000m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s recent claims.

Speaking on the European Athletics 'Ignite' Podcast, the two-time World 1500m silver medallist explained that he is only focusing on his goals and can only be friends with people who are chasing the same goals as he is. Ingebrigtsen also called out his rivals including Kerr as ‘as*holes and being idiots’.

"I think some people are just as*holes and being idiots. At the end of the day, for me, it’s all about myself and the sport of running and trying to be as good as I can be.

“I think I am friends with people who share the same thoughts and chase the same goals as me. There are some people that don’t do that,” said Ingebrigtsen.

He went on to explain that he has won the Olympic Games before and claiming this year’s title will not be a problem for him as long as he is injury-free and healthy.

Responding to the Norwegian’s claims, Kerr explained that he is not focused on making any friends on the track, something that seems to piss off many people including Ingebrigtsen.

Speaking to the UK Times, Kerr said: “There will be some verbal back and forth when we are in press conferences or doing interviews.

“But we are guys going after the same goal. I have respect for my competitors but, as I say, I’m not looking to make friends. That seems to piss people off but that’s fine. It’s who I am.

“I’m always going to speak my mind and I’m not going to let someone belittle my career with their comments. But I’m not going to combat that with my own comments. I’m going to combat that with results.”
