Maureen Thomas, one of Mary Moraa's training mates, has opened up on how it is a plus to train and compete with the reigning world 800m champion.

Maureen Thomas, one of Mary Moraa’s training mates, has shared details of what it feels like training alongside 'Kisii Express.'

The duo train under coach Alex Sang, an athletics coach at Golazo Sports, who has been of great impact in Moraa’s life career wise. Thomas is also ready to learn from Sang as well as Moraa as she seeks global recognition.

She admitted that training with Moraa has been an eye-opening experience and she has been able to gain a lot of skills thus far.

“Competing against Mary Moraa is certainly difficult because she gives us tough opposition but we train together and she gives me the motivation to always work hard," said Thomas.

“I know when she scales down to the 400m, there will be very stiff competition but we are also happy when she comes because she will help us to push ourselves to the limits and clock good times,” she added.

She was in action with Moraa during the African Games national trials but unfortunately missed the ticket to the continental showpiece. Moraa won the race in style with Thomas having no option but to settle for third place.

Having missed a chance to go for the continental event, Thomas will now return to training and hope to clock the Olympic qualifying time before time elapses.

“Qualifying for the Olympic Games will be a life-changing moment for me because my career will start taking shape and one of my dreams will have come true,” Thomas said.

Thomas opened her season at the second Athletics Kenya weekend meet held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

She then proceeded to the third AK weekend meet at the Nyayo National Stadium, competing in the 400m where she finished seventh in the final.
