Reigning Olympic 3000m steeplechase champion Winfred Yavi is not disappointed with her second loss of the season.
The Kenyan-born Bahraini went into the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo intending to win the women’s 3000m steeplechase, but Faith Cherotich had other plans.
Winfred Yavi fought for the win to the finish line, but Cherotich proved too tough for the world champion. She was yet again forced to settle for second place in her second successive run.

Faith Cherotich Sends Clear Message to Winfred Yavi Ahead of Tokyo Showdown
After back-to-back wins over Winfred Yavi, Faith Cherotich has hinted at something even bigger this season.
Faith Cherotich set another world-leading time, clocking 9:02.60 to better her previous world lead of 9:05.08. Winfred Yavi could only afford a second-place finish in 9:02.76.
At the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar, Winfred Yavi finished second behind world bronze medallist Faith Cherotich.

Winfred Yavi is not disappointed with her performance at the Diamond League Meeting in Oslo, noting that she executed the race exactly as she wanted to.
She pointed out that during training, she had worked on those aspects and followed instructions from her coach throughout the race.
Winfred Yavi revealed that she will be competing at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, scheduled for July 5, and she will be hoping to claim her first win of the season.
Yavi added that her main target this season will be to defend her world title, one that she won at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
“Today, I executed the race exactly as I was planning with my coach. But yes, now, I am looking forward to the next one, which will be in Eugene,” Winfred Yavi revealed.
“I really love that atmosphere here and the crowd. I did not have the chance to taste strawberries yet. My main target and all I am looking up to is the defence of my world title in Tokyo.”
Last year, Winfred Yavi competed sparingly and in 90% of her competitions, she made a mark. She started her season with an eighth-place finish at the Prefontaine Classic and later finished second in the 5000m at the Meeting International d'Athlétisme de la Province de Liège.
