American track sensation Fred Kerley has requested World Athletics to increase prize money following the changes made to the World Athletics calendar from 2025.

Following the changes made to the World Athletics calendar after the 234th World Athletics Council Meeting on Wednesday night, Fred Kerley has also called for an increase in prize money for the events.

The American, replying to two-time World Champion Rai Benjamin, was seeking World Athletics to ensure that from 2025, they increase the prize money.

In a thread on X (Twitter) handle, an American outlet, Citius Mag, shared the news on World Athletics changing the format of the calendar.

In the post, Citius Mag said: “World Athletics has also announced that starting in 2025 the outdoor track and field season will end at the World Championships.

“From their announcement: ‘This will create a season-long narrative that builds to the natural crescendo of the World Athletics Championships each year, while at the same time allowing for a more consistent global calendar to be established.

‘Each season from 2025 onwards will end with the World Athletics Championships, meaning there is a clear season climax during a defined window in mid-September."

Benjamin replied to the message asking: “What’s step 2?” He then added a comment saying: “Makes sense. Blocks with no sensors would be awesome too.”

The former World 100m champion then added to his first question saying: “More prize money.”

Kerley was also excited about the changes by World Athletics, adding another comment saying: “So after world championships a lot of 1v1. Exhibit. Matchup.”
