'We Are Used to Relays' - Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Downplays Jamaica's Shock Defeat to Spain
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has reacted to Jamaica’s second-place finish in the women’s 4x100m relay heats at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China.
The three-time Olympic champion was running in the second leg of the relay with two-time world 200m champion Shericka Jackson in the anchor leg. The Clayton twins, Tina and Tia Clayton, ran in the first and third legs.
Team Jamaica finished second behind Spain, something that shocked track fans since Jamaica has always been impressive in relay races and losing to Spain was something unexpected.

Team Spain won the heat in a national record time of 42.18 seconds, with Jamaica coming in second in 42.51 seconds. Germany rounded up the podium in 42.98 seconds.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Breaks Silence
Speaking about the second-place finish in the race, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce revealed that the main reason was to qualify for the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan and the final too, and all the boxes have been ticked.
She pointed out that going into the final, they know what to work on, which will include trusting each other and working as a team.
The 10-time world champion also bragged about Jamaicans knowing how to handle the relays, as she explained that they will certainly make a mark in the final.
“We come out here to qualify; that was the intention. We do have a mix of experiences on the team, we are used to relays,” Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce said after the race.
“We just had a good run. We finished healthily. We came for the championship, and we have to stick around and trust each other. We know what to do for tomorrow.”
On her part, Tia Clayton was excited to have competed with her icons, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson.
“Running with Shericka and Fraser is one of my goals, I never gave up on that. It's a really great experience,” she said.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce 2025 season
The Jamaican sprint queen has yet to confirm whether the 2025 season will be her final but one thing is for sure: she will be looking to make a mark this season too.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce started her season with a 100m race at the Velocity Fest #17 before competing at the World Athletics Relays. She has also been confirmed for the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, Qatar.
